In 1976, Reverend Jorge Morales founded San Lucas United Church of Christ, located at 2914 West North Avenue in Westtown/Humboldt Park. The church was established the with the objective of fighting for social justice and assisting the less fortunate residents of the community. Reverend Morales became one of the most revered community activist in the community. Today, San Lucas Church continues its mission by providing a series of programs to community residents, i.e. meals for the homeless, food pantry, store for the needy, after-school program, and others.
