Remembering "Las Caras Lindas" by Carlos Flores
This photo gallery represents some of the beautiful faces of Afro-Latinos living in Chicago, Illinois. These images correspond to an article written by Carlos Flores, entitled "Remembering Las Caras Lindas" (Remembering the Beautiful Faces). The article was published in the DIALOGO Magazine by the Center for Latino Research at De Paul University, in the Winter/Spring 2001 edition. The article focuses on a song written by the late Afro-Puerto Rican composer, Tite Curet Alonzo, entitled "Las Caras Lindas" (The Beautiful Faces), and how music written and performed by various artist elevates and raises awareness and positive consciousness with regards to racial pride, specially among the millions of people within the African Diaspora. The article also compares the song written and recorded in the 1960's by the late James Brown, "Say It Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud", and the impact that song had on members of the African-American community in the United States.
